Bidders will have a wide variety of entries to choose from as South West Vehicle Auctions (SWVA) hosts its Summer Classic Car Auction on July 28, with a lineup including plenty of sun-ready classic roadsters.

As with its other sales this year, the firm’s Poole venue will be open to the public, with viewing available on the four days preceding the sale.

Traditional sports cars feature heavily. A 1995-registered MG RV8 is one of the last 20 cars and carries a very attractive estimate of £12,500-£15,000, while Triumph is represented by no fewer than three TR6s ranging from a 1969 example to a 1974 car. You’ll also find a 1967 Mk3 Spitfire and a particularly attractive 1972 Mk4, while a 1970 Vitesse is guided at £9000-£11,000.

Further sun-seeking Brits include a rare 1994 Rover Mini Cabriolet that has been custom painted in bright metallic green, while rather more orthodox is a 1961 Morris Minor Convertible in white. This is joined by a tip-topped 1956 Series 2 Minor that combines its split screen looks with an uprated 1275cc power unit. And we aren’t done with Minis either, for there’s a 1968 Mk2 Morris Mini Cooper S in Mk2 guise that is expected to sell for as much as £25,000.

Elsewhere, there’s a wide range of Daimlers and Jaguars too. The former includes a 1951 DB Consort, a 1965 2.5 V8 and a 1997 long wheelbase V8, while among the latter is a beautiful Series 1 XJ6 4.2 dating from 1970, a 1965 Mk2 3.8 and a 1968 S-Type. All told, there were a dozen Jaguars entered at the time of writing.

Fords are well represented too, with a low-mileage Sierra Azura run-out model from 1993 joined by a basic Mk4 Escort 1.4L and a late Mk6 saloon, though the hotter side of things is taken care of by a 1975 Mk2 Escort 1600 Sport and a 1991 Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4×4, which is estimated at an alluring £17,000-£18,000. Other performance models, meanwhile, include a 1985 VW Golf GTI, a 1993 Golf VR6 and a 1989 Peugeot 205 GTI that could sell for £15,000.

With oddballs such a Jaguar Mk2-mimicking Mitsuoka Viewt (based on a Nissan Micra) and projects that include a round-wheelarch MG Midget, a TVR Taimar and an Opel Manta GTE, there’s surely something to tick everyone’s box. For the full catalogue, head to the SWVA website at: swva.co.uk.

  • Garaged all its life and said to be mint underneath, this 1988 Austin Metro City X has only covered 37,734 miles from new and has been well-maintained throughout its life. Now complete with an unleaded head and rebuilt Hydragas, it’s estimated at just £1000-£1750.
  • Mk4 Ford Escorts like this 1986 1.4L used to be everywhere, but they are a rare sight nowadays. This one shows a mere 34,943 miles and is said to be in excellent condition inside and out. What’s more, it’s guided at just £800-£1200.
  • This 1974 Hillman Imp Super has recently been subject to a complete engine rebuild and recommissioning. It looks superb and in metallic green with a complementary tan/biscuit interior, and is guided at a very tempting £4000-£5000.
  • This Series 1 XJ6 was built in the UK in 1970 and then dispatched to South Africa in January 1971, making trips to Europe before being re-imported in 2017. Well-maintained throughout its life and supplied with a comprehensive service history, it’s estimated at £12,500-£15,000.
  • Joining an older S123 and another S124, this 1993 Mercedes E220 estate is a rare find, with just two former keepers and a relatively low mileage of 87,210. It’s a seven-seater with a sunroof, alloys and leather trim, and is expected to sell for £3500-£4500.
  • Another low-mileage entry is this rare 1997 Rover 825 Sterling Coupe. The automatic example has had a mere three owners from new and has covered just under 42,000 miles. Said to dive very well, it’s estimated at £2500-£3500.
  • One of the two Triumph Spitfires in the sale, this 1972 Mk4 example is said to be in excellent condition and comes with stacks of paperwork. The mileage of 26,910 is believable, thanks to MoTs in the file that date back to 1979. It’s estimated at £5000-£6000.
  • Imported new from Mexico in 1998 by Beetles (UK) Ltd, this one-owner Volkswagen Beetle 1600 has not been used since 2004 and therefore will need recommissioning. However, it remains original and has only covered 25,301 miles, making it very tempting – especially as it’s offered with no reserve.
