Online classic car auctioneer, The Market, is continuing operate despite having to close its premises to the public. The company not only enjoyed its most successful month to date in March, but also saw a 50 per cent increase in traffic for its online auction platform and app as restrictions began to bite.
The highlight from the March auctions was a 1973 Ferrari 246GT ‘Dino’, one of just 498 UK right-hand drive cars made, which sold for £215,500. Other notable lots included an early 1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 FHC which sold for £91,000 and a 1979 Mk1 Volkswagen Golf GTI with just 17,000 recorded miles that achieved £27,695. In all, the March auctions saw an impressive 86 per cent sales rate and a new record in total monthly sales for the company of over £752,000.
The company has continued to offer cars during April, with one of the standouts a limited-edition 1987 Lotus Esprit Turbo HC. Just 21 examples were made to celebrate 21 years of Lotus production at the Hethel factory, with this example recorded as number 10. Showing a mere 54,000 miles and offered with no reserve, it sold for £39,950.
Other April highlights include a 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser at £17,500, a Jaguar E-Type Series 1 with modern upgrades at £99,000 and a 10,000-mile Rover Mini Cooper, which looked excellent value at £11,000. To see all the results visit www.themarket.co.uk.
