September 21 marked the 100th birthday of lifelong BMC fan and the Metro Club’s oldest member, Eric Dupont. Over the years Eric and his son John have owned a countless number of BMC and British Leyland vehicles including a Morris Oxford, Morris 1300, an early MG Metro and three Austin Maxis including one of the first cable change models.
To this day, Eric still owns the 1985 Arum White MG Metro 1300 he purchased new. The Metro has led a very cosseted life and been meticulously cared for by his son John since it was new, winning countless awards at MG club events over the years.
John, also a BMC fan, now drives the Metro for Eric who still likes to attend shows and events including the National Metro and Mini Show at the British Motor Museum earlier in the year. John also owns a 1980 MGB and 1984 Metro which have both been owned from new, so both father and son have shown true dedication to British Motor history. Happy 100th Birthday Eric.
