Last year’s Silverstone Classic auction saw total sales of over £5million and Silverstone Auctions achieved two world record prices, with 85 per cent of the cars on offer successfully sold. Looking forward to this year’s date, Silverstone Auctions invites quality consignments ahead one of the most significant sales in its calendar, adding to its already high quality lot list.
Among the cars offered in the Silverstone Classic Sale is a stunning 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT. Delivered new to Luigi Chinetti (Le Mans winner, founder of NART (North American Racing Team) and Ferrari dealer) in New York, the 246 GT for sale is a superb example worthy of its £240,000 – £280,000 estimate. Complete with original bill of sale, owners’ handbook, tool kit, jack and bag, this particular car has had a lot of interest ahead of its sale.
Plus, with reports surfacing that an all-new Dino is being readied by Ferrari, interest in the original version will undoubtedly grow – even beyond current levels.
Jumping forward a decade is another icon of its time, the Eighties’ favourite Porsche 911 (930) Turbo. One of the last 930 Turbos off the production line, it comes in a fantastic specification with the desirable later five-speed gearbox, iconic ‘Whale Tale’ spoiler and Guards Red paint with contrasting cream interior and gleaming Fuchs wheels. Remaining in the same ownership since 1993, the car has been meticulously owned and maintained and comes with all service documents and low mileage for its age.
Another desirable modern classic that is really appreciating in the current classic car market is the Ferrari F355. Silverstone Auctions is proud to present this six-speed manual, left-hand drive 1996 Berlinetta in the Silverstone Classic Sale, which has only covered 24,480 miles since new (39,400 kms) and has been meticulously maintained throughout its life. One of the best supercars of the Nineties, the car heads to auction with an estimate of £55,000 to £65,000.
As ever, the Silverstone Classic Sale – like every Silverstone Classic auction event – has a high quality and varied mix of lots. In addition to the above supercars, the July sale catalogue also features a 1942 Ford GPW ‘Willys’ Jeep, a 1979 ex-BTCC Ford Capri, a 1975 Porsche 911 RSR specification race car, a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda and many more.
Heralded as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, over 90,000 people visited Silverstone Classic last year and 2015’s event looks like it’s set to break all previous records on the weekend of 25-26 July 2015.
