Despite seeing more visitors, the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky has reneged on a previous decision to keep the sinkhole open that swallowed eight of its exhibits.

Plans were afoot to place a couple of the most damaged cars back into the crater as the basis for a permanent display – but organisers decided against it on cost grounds, arguing that the safety modifications around the hole were just too expensive.
