In this mini-series, we explore some of the limited editions you forgot existed. This week it’s the Austin Metro Vanden Plas 500.
Special editions often commemorate the reaching of a milestone. The Morris Minor Million is a well-known example. But to celebrate reaching half this figure of Austin Metros, BL also released a limited edition based on the plush Vanden Plas. The 500,000th Metro was marked with a run of 500 Metro Vanden Plas 500 models, each bearing a numbered plaque. The velour trim was replaced by Caramel leather, all were finished in cost option Black paint with a gold coachline, and all gained the Wolfrace Sonic-style alloys from the MG Metro. Each came with a free bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne, and a stereo radio cassette as standard.
