One of the biggest names in demountable motor homes four decades ago was Suntrekker, produced by B Walker & Son Ltd of Stockport, Cheshire.
As the front cover of this period brochure shows, there was plenty of choice when it came to donor vehicles, with demountable rear ends available for some of the UK’s best-selling pick-ups – from the Marina-based range through to the one-tonne offerings from Japanese makers like Toyota, Datsun and Mazda.
You could even order a Suntrekker demountable motorhome for larger chassis cab models, including Ford’s MkII Transit, Bedford’s CF and Volkswagen’s LT, with the long-wheelbase Land Rover Series III also coming in for the same treatment.
If you were heading off on holiday, you simply fitted a Suntrekker to the rear of your truck, instantly transforming your hard-working commercial into a home from home.
Are there any CM users out there lucky enough to own a Suntrekker demountable?
