The Classic Car Loan Project now in its third year and has more cars than ever ready and waiting for new keepers to enjoy. The scheme offers younger drivers the chance to have a classic car to drive, free of charge, for up to 12 months.
Following the NEC Classic Motor Show in November, a 1949 Alvis TA14 saloon owned by Alvis club member Jack Meredith and a 1997 Volvo740 Estate loaned through the Volvo Enthusiasts Club by Sean Skeet have joined the fleet. These join a Ford Model A, a 1934 Morgan Super Sports three-wheeler, a 1934 Austin Seven saloon, a 1936 Austin Seven Ruby saloon, a 1949 Alvis TA14 saloon, another three-wheeled Morgan from 1951, a 1956 Ford Anglia, a 1960 Vauxhall Victor saloon, a 1968 Morris Minor Traveller and a 1983 Austin Maestro. In all, that’s an impressive total of 11 classics.
There’s a new sponsor, too. Classic British motor oil brand Duckhams has agreed to back the project, joining existing sponsors Peter James Insurance and Longstone Tyres.
Project Manager Bob Wilkinson explained: “The project is well managed throughout, with an agreement between the car owner and borrower, covering care and maintenance during the loan period.
“For some of the cars on offer I would envisage having some applications from those who may already own a more modern classic and are looking to experience an older car. Adding the Alvis and the Volvo broadens our range of cars considerably.
“Apart from new enthusiasts, this is an excellent opportunity for clubs to get involved in a sound project aimed at encouraging the next generation into this wonderful pastime we have enjoyed over the years. Clubs aspire to help the next generation and here is a well-tested, golden opportunity.”
To be eligible you need to be, ideally, 25 years old or more with a full UK driving licence, facilities to securely garage the car, plus an interest and some aptitude to enter the classic car world.
