Intrepid MGC GT owner Ed Griffith has raised over £2000 for the charity Blood Bikes Wales by driving his MG to all four corners of Wales in just one day.
Ed is no stranger to an endurance feat – for Drive It Day in 2017 he covered 600 miles in the one day, with members of his Bridgend MG Owners’ Club donating money to the local Sandville Self Help Centre for each mile covered.
For Drive It Day 2018, Ed had set himself an even harder challenge after a chance meeting with Andrew Morgan, a volunteer with Blood Bikes Wales. The charity transports blood products, breast milk, samples and reports around Wales for the NHS, mainly outside normal working hours and relying entirely on public donations to finance the operation, so Ed figured he too could cover the whole of the country!
Leaving home at 3.20am on this year’s Drive It Day, he duly covered the 548.8 miles in 20 hours 30 minutes, arriving back home 10 minutes before midnight.
It was all worthwhile though as, with help and support from Bridgend MGOC, Ed raised a total of £2002.85 through sponsorship and donations. With the last of the cash gathered in, a cheque was handed over to Andrew Morgan and Martin Ricketts of BBW earlier this month. He also presented them with the route map and photo montage of his ‘Four Corners of Wales in a Day’ run, which Andrew has now mounted on the wall of his A48 Café.
