Iconic Auctioneers – formerly Silverstone Auctions – is set to include two low-mileage Cosworth Fords in its headline sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show on November 11

Iconic Auctioneers is gearing up for its return to the NEC Classic Motor Show on November 11–13, bringing its usual headline sale (previously under the Silverstone Auctions name) to the biggest classic car show on the calendar. Among the early confirmed lots are these two special Fast Fords: a 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth RS500 and a 1997 Escort RS Cosworth.

The former is billed as a ‘sleeping beauty’ having spent more that three decades in storage and now presented in mint condition with just 12,530 miles on the clock. The car began life as a Ford press car before being sold to its current owner a year later.

It’s the latest in a long line of stellar Sierra RS Cosworths to be offered by sale by Iconic Auctioneers, including an RS500 model that sold for £596,250 last year, smashing the previous record of £132,750. A Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth smashed its £50,000 estimate in the same year, changing hands for £109,125. This year’s example is guided at £100,000–140,000.

Iconic also has experience of high-value Ford Escorts having achieved the headline-grabbing sale of Princess Diana’s Escort RS Turbo last year for £737,000. This year’s offering is a relative bargain with a guide of £125,000–150,000; presented in Diamond White, the 1997 Escort RS Cosworth has covered just 402 miles from new, with Ford Motor Company the only name in the logbook.

The car was originally delivered to the dealership with just 24 miles indicated and was briefly used by the Dealer Principal before being popped into his showroom, with an odometer reading of 352 miles, until 2006 when the current owner bought it on a whim. Today, that decision looks to have been very sound indeed.
