The first of WB & Sons’ regular sales for 2025 gets underway at its Newcastle base on January 25, with many enticing cars set feature

Japanese cars are set to be well represented at WB & Sons first sale of the year, with one of the highlights a seemingly immaculate 1984 Honda Prelude that boasts just one owner and 39,000 miles to its name, equating to a £4000–6000 estimate. A fellow one-owner coupe is a 1996 Toyota Celica GT, which features smart bodywork and tan leather interior, plus a modest £1500–2500 estimate. Meanwhile, £6000–8000 could net a 1991 Honda Civic EF that offers performance as exciting as its bright yellow paintwork, thanks to a 220bhp turbocharged 1.6-litre engine.

Elsewhere, an all-black 2009 Mazda MX-5 ‘NC’ with the desirable folding hardtop roof is guided at £2000–3000, and a recently imported 2001 Subaru Forester STI caught our eye due to its tasteful upgrades, modest 64,000 miles and £7000–9000 estimate. The same guide price could also net a newer Subaru in the form of an Impreza WRX-S hatch.

Home-grown fare is also plentiful, with a 1984 Austin Metro Vanden Plas automatic standing out in particular – its 13,000 miles may be unwarranted, but with a well-kept interior and MG Metro alloys, its £3000–4000 guide price looks tempting. A 2004 Rover 75 1.8 could make for the perfect modern classic to use daily with a low 76,000 miles to its name and equally low £1000–2000 estimate, while a 1964 Hillman Super Minx could be the perfect entry to 1960s motoring with an affordable £2500–3500 guide.

If that’s not luxurious enough for you, however, a 2002 Jaguar XK8 4.2 coupe offers performance, style and a leather-lined cabin, all with a potentially bargainous estimate of £3500–4500. A 1971 Land Rover Series 2A sporting a galvanised chassis and front bumper looks in excellent condition and is estimated at £10,000–14,000, while its lesser-spotted rival in the form of a 1965 Austin Gypsy is equally tidy and is sure to turn heads for an expected sale price of £8000–12,000.

If you’re after something cheap and cheerful, a 2002 MINI Cooper S offers supercharged thrills for an estimated £1500–2500, while a 1989 Ford Escort Mk4 XR3i Cabriolet could make for the perfect recommissioning project for the same guide. Alongside, a 1999 Alfa Romeo 166 looks sharp in pearl white and boasts the sonorous ‘Busso’ V6 for an estimated £1000–2000, and you won’t find more performance or luxury for the money than the 2002 Mercedes S55 AMG with its £35004500 guide.
