Iconic Auctioneers is once again set to return to the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham. Here’s what to expect from its headline sale
Iconic Auctioneers will once again host its ‘Super Sale’ as part of the Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC. Viewing will be available on the show’s opening day, Friday November 13, with the Iconic Sale for collectors’ cars following on the Saturday, and the Classic Sale taking place on the Sunday.
We’ll begin with the Iconic sale, which has numerous cars entered by what is a star-studded line-up of motoring personalities and celebrities. Three cars used by Jeremy Clarkson on The Grand Tour will be offered directly from his personal collection, all without reserve. They include the Lancia Montecarlo Spider he drove in the final ever episode, the 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6 used in ‘Well Aged Scotch’, first broadcast in 2019, and 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V from ‘The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown’.
In addition, star of the Harry’s Garage YouTube channel, Harry Metcalfe, will put his 2018 ‘Bespoke by SVO’ Jaguar XE SV Project 8 under the hammer – a car he has owned from new and a model he was involved in developing. The unique Merlin Purple example is estimated at £140,000-£160,000.
Other star cars include a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG, owned by ex-Formula One World Champion Jenson Button for almost 15 years, which is guided at £400,000-£500,000. It’s joined by a rather more sedate 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II previously owned by Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher, which is estimated at £25,000- £30,000.
Iconic Auctioneers Chairman and founder Nick Whale will offer four cars from his personal collection. Leading the group is one of just 38 Aston Martin DB6 Mk2 Volantes, which is guided at £450,000-£550,000, while a low-mileage TVR Griffith 500SE, a Porsche 718 Spyder RS and manual BMW M2 CS are offered too.
It doesn’t end there though. A 1986 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo SE 3.3 ‘Flachbau’ once owned by former McLaren boss Ron Dennis will also go under the hammer. It’s covered just 2500 miles and could sell for as much as £400,000. Two cars are offered from the collection of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason too, comprising a 1928 Morgan Supersport 8-Valve Anzani guided at £35,000-£40,000, and a 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 roadster estimated at £60,000-£70,000.
Not everything has a celebrity past though, with many of the entries notable on their own merits. Low mileage hot hatches include a smart Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 and a 2002 RenaultSport Clio V6 Phase I showing just 2456 miles. A BMW M1 also appears and could fetch as much as £500,000, while a one-owner and totally original BMW 2002 Turbo could fetch up to £100,000.
