The Renault Twingo E-Tech prototype will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month, previewing a 2026 production version

This is the Renault Twingo E-Tech, a prototype small electric car that pays homage to its 1990s namesake with compact dimensions and trademark cute styling. It’s the latest retro-inspired electric offering from the French brand, hot on the heels of the new Renault 5 E-Tech and forthcoming Renault 4 E-Tech. It will be shown to the public for the first time at the Paris Motor Show on 14–20 October.

The concept car offers a glimpse of what to expect from the full production version which is expected to arrive in 2026, with Renault quoting a sub-€20,000 price. The French firm suggests that the car will ‘put electric mobility within ever more people’s reach’.

There’s no detail of the car’s powertrain for now, but it’s likely the new Twingo will share underpinnings with its larger Renault 5 E-Tech sibling. Instead, the focus for now is on the concept’s styling, which reflects that of its 1990s counterpart with an ‘expressive and endearing’ front end and a nod to the original’s trio of small bonnet vents and signature door handles.

Unlike the original Twingo, the new electric version boasts a five-door layout, a fixed glass roof and LED lights all round.

The original Renault Twingo was released in 1992 and originally reserved for left-hand-drive markets. It was built in France and Spain for the European market but also in Taiwan, Uruguay and Columbia; European production ended in 2007, with the car surviving in South America until 2012.

A second-generation car arrived in 2007, replaced in turn by a rear-engined third-generation car in 2014 that shared its underpinnings with the Smart Forfour.
