The M25 is slated to be closed from 12–15 July for only the third time in the motorway’s 38-year history
Hot on the heels of the first two closures in the history of the M25, a third maintenance and improvement closure period is planned from Friday 12 July to Monday 15 July. Taking place from Junction 9 (A243 Leatherhead) to Junction 10 (A3 Wisley), the closure lands not only across a likely busy weekend leading into the summer holidays, but clashes with the landmark Goodwood Festival of Speed weekend.
This isn’t the first time one of 2024’s M25 closures has clashes with a major car show, sadly, with the first affecting ease of access to our own Volksworld Plus show, and the second occurring on the same weekend as Classic Ford Show.
National Highways will use this third closure period – which starts at 9am on the Friday and ends at 6am on the Monday – to install a new bridge on the roundabout at Junction 10, having already closed the stretch of road twice to remove a bridge and install a gantry. National Highways has warned drivers in the area to expect delays, particularly if heading to Gatwick or Heathrow airports, festivals, concerts or travelling on holiday.
The junction leads drivers onto the A3, and is a key road out of London to the south coast, doubtless impacting drivers heading to the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Organisers of the Goodwood Festival of Speed warned drivers to check their routes before departing for the show – “We will be advising ticket buyers to check their route before travelling, to follow local road diversions and visit the National Highways M25 Junction 10 website. It may be wise to allow a little more time than planned.”
Two further closures on the motorway are planned for 2024 but these dates have not been confirmed at time of writing.
