Queen Elizabeth II’s Jaguar X-Type estate is set for a no-reserve sale at Historics on November 26
A slice of royal history is set to go under the hammer when the Jaguar X-Type estate originally owned by the late Queen Elizabeth II is offered for sale with no reserve at Historics.
Finished in its original Emerald Fire with a Barley leather interior, the car’s royal status is confirmed by its original paperwork. Back then, the car was registered as PYN IF and became a regular sight with Her Majesty photographed behind the wheel.
The 3.0-litre flagship X-Type comes with a sunroof, automatic transmission, electric windows, climate control, a comprehensive service history and a JDHT Heritage Certificate. Historics describes the car as one “for the serious collector or royalist and with a provenance which is impossible to match”.
The X-Type first arrived in 2001 as Jaguar’s answer to the mighty BMW 3 Series. Developed during the Ford-owned era and built at Jaguar’s Halewood plant, the car was based on the CD123 platform that also underpinned the 2002 Ford Mondeo – albeit reengineered to utilise four-wheel drive. While her late Majesty’s example sports the largest engine of the range, the X-Type was also available with 2.1 and 2.5-litre V6 engines, along with 2.0 and 2.2-litre diesel units shared with its Ford cousin.
Production ended in 2009 and the X-Type was not directly replaced until the arrival of the Jaguar XE in 2015 – a car with a more tenuous royal connection. The Queen officially opened Jaguar Land Rover’s engine plant in Wolverhampton in 2014, where production started with the XE’s ‘Ingenium’ 2.0-litre diesel.
