WB & Sons return with another sale packed with the usual eclectic mix of classics of all ages – and to suit all budgets

Newcastle upon Tyne auction house WB & Sons will look to get its second year in business off to a flyer when it holds it first sale of 2022 on February 12. Around 120 classic and prestige entries are expected for the public-facing sale, with online, proxy and telephone bids also invited.

The sale is once again one of contrasts, with former street furniture sharing space with sports cars and customised American metal. Very much in the ‘once ubiquitous’ category are not one but two Bedford HA vans – one a rare Double Plus model with folding rear seats, the other having covered just 5000 miles since new. Other commercial include a Citroën C15, a Reliant Ant three-wheeled pick-up and a rare 1988 Toyota Hi-Ace, while those who prefer the load area as their living space – albeit not a very roomy one – might be keen on a diminutive Honda Acty Romahome.

Staying with the ex-street furniture theme, a 15,000-mile Mk4 Ford Fiesta is expected to command £2000-£3000, while an Alfa 146, a Mk5 Ford Escort Ghia, a Mercedes-Benz 190E, a 1990 Toyota Corolla and a three-door VW Golf Mk2 all appear in gloriously stock form. We’re also big fans of a Mk3 Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 CDi, which wears an F-registration to mark it out as a very early example, while an extremely clean Volvo 940 2.3 offers a time warp back to the mid-1990s at an estimated £4000-£5000.

For those preferring a little more sporting character, a 1991 Lotus Elan SE is joined by a 2006 Porsche Boxster, an MGB roadster with a V8 conversion, a similarly throaty TVR Cerbera and a 1991 Peugeot 205 GTI fitted with a 3.0-litre V6 motor from a 406. A pair of BMW E36s also feature in 328i Coupe and 323i Cabriolet guises, while a rare 2002 Alfa Romeo GTV Cup is sure to be popular at an estimated £8000-£10,000. It’s not the only cool Italian though – a 1960s Lancia Flavia ticks that box too, though it will need some hefty restoration work.

As for the aforementioned Americans, a 1967 Ford Falcon joins a 1976 Ford F100 pick-up and Ford LTD from the same year, while the sale also features a 1950 Dodge Business Coupe, a 1951 Mercury Sedan, a 1956 Buick Super Riviera and a 1978 Chevrolet C10 Scottsdale. More Stateside models are expected to join the catalogue before the sale, too.

With other entries including a Bentley Eight, an MG Montego, a trio of Minis, a 1948 Wolseley 25HP, a Ford Model A, a Nissan Cube and even a Daimler V8 six-door limousine, the sale surely has something for everyone. See the full catalogue here.

  • A highly sought-after Cup edition of Alfa's fast appreciating GTV coupe, this 2002 example is number 90 from only 155 produced and boats a 3-litre version of the company's famous ‘Busso’ V6. It will retain its N90 CUP registration plate and is expected to sell for £8000-£10,000.
  • One of two Bedford HA110 vans in the sale, this 1979 example was used for only two years before being stood up until 2010 and fully restored. Kept in a heated building and now showing only 5000 miles, it's estimated at £8000-£9000.
  • One of a host of American entries is this 1950 Dodge Business Coupe, which was imported to the UK in 2000 and has been with the vendor for 10 years. It features a correct and rebuilt 3.8-litre straight six engine fitted to a ‘three-on-the-tree’ manual gearbox, and is guided at £10,000-£14,000.
  • Perhaps one for those who prefer to travel light, this 550cc Honda Acty Romahome camper boasts twin-berth accommodation, an integrated fridge, a sink and a two-ring gas hob. The 1985 example is thought to have covered 54,000 miles and is estimated at £3500-£4500.
  • Showing only two previous keepers, this 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280E boasts smart Petrol Green bodywork with an immaculate beige leather interior. It comes with a full service history and is estimated at £3000-£5000.
  • As featured in last week's issue, this one-off trails car was built by the Monk family in Slough during 1953, using a Morris Minor chassis and a Ford 8 engine. Best bids are invited for the unique creation, which was officially registered with the DVLA as a ‘Monk Special’.
  • Even in stock 1.6-litre guise this 1991 Peugeot 205 GTI wouldn't have been a slouch, but now it's been fitted with a 3.0-litre V6 from a 406 coupe, along with Speedline wheels from a 1.9 GTI model. The car is finished in the desirable colour of Laser Green and is expected to change hands for £3000-£5000.
  • Known to many as the posh Allegro, this 60,000-mile Vanden Plas 1750 from 1979 is the rare bigger-engined variant. The paintwork is a little tired, but it comes with all the usual refinements and a host of paperwork, making it a potential bargain at an estimated £2000-£3000.
  • Registered within three months of the model's launch in October 1988, this Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 CDi is a very early example of a Mk3. In good, honest condition, it's covered 102,000 miles and is expected to command £2000-£3000.
