If you thought hybrids were a modern idea then think again, this is the Briggs & Stratton Hybrid concept from the 1980s.
Wanting to expand beyond lawnmowers, in 1980 Briggs & Stratton showed this six-wheeler concept which coupled one of its own 18hp engines to a 28hp electric motor, the two connected by a centrifugal clutch.
Rather randomly, the range was described as being “between 30 and 300 miles” with a top speed of 55 mph but that wasn’t the biggest drawback: the 12 six-volt lead acid batteries were carried in a separate trailer.
