The Jim Clark Motorsport Museum in Duns, Scottish Borders, just southeast of Edinburgh, is to be officially opened by Formula One legend Sir Jackie Stewart OBE.
A long standing appreciator of Jim Clark’s racing career, even going as far to say that he was the finest racing driver he ever competed against, as well as a close friend, it’s only appropriate for Jackie Stewart to return to the museum for its opening following a £1.6 million redevelopment that has expanded its celebration of the famous racing driver more than ever.
The opening event will start at noon on August 29, with the museum proper opening at 3pm and into the evening for public viewing. For the first time are displayed Jim Clark’s two iconic race cars, a Lotus 25 and Lotus Cortina, as well as a whole selection of displays showing visitors his journey from school, through farming, then into his illustrious career in motorsport. There’s even a racing simulator that gives visitors the chance to take the wheel of a classic racing car and test their skills in virtual reality. Admission to the museum will still be a very reasonable £5 per person, tickets allowing free re-entry for the 12 months ahead of the first visit.
