With a focus on legibility in the darkest depths, the new C60 Trident Lumière is ready for night dives (or drives)
This is the Christopher Ward C60 Trident Lumière, the latest offering in the British-Swiss firm’s Trident collection of diver’s watches. The new model is packed with high-end features and looks set to offer great value for money.
Christopher Ward has also announced that two per cent of all Trident sales will be donated to its partner, the Blue Marine Foundation. All funds raised will contribute to Blue Marine Foundation’s 30×30 mission to protect 30 per cent of the world’s oceans by 2030.
The C60 Trident Lumière’s spec sheet reads a lot like that of the similarly rugged-looking Tudor Pelagos: a Grade 2 titanium case and bracelet, a COSC-certified automatic movement, a helium escape valve (to stop the watch exploding during saturation diving) and extremely bright lume all feature, although the Pelagos’ 500m of water resistance pips the Trident’s (still impressive) 300m.
A bright night-time glow is achieved thanks to indices and hands created using ceramic infused with Super LumiNova, which makes each element both 3D and luminescent. Christopher Ward says the result is the most lume ever applied to one of its watches. A brushed ceramic bezel insert also incorporates lumed markers.
“The cost of the dial and handset is significantly more than we’d normally entertain – by around four times, in fact – but it’s so worth it,” said Jörg Bader Jnr, head of product at Christopher Ward. “There are no fewer than 17 applied Globolight® pieces on each dial, plus the hands. Altogether it has five times the lume of a regular Trident, and shines twice as brightly – and for much longer”
Elsewhere, the C60 Trident Lumière incorporates an update to the brand’s ‘Bader’ bracelet, with a 6.5mm taper, polished bevels and an improved buckle with a new push button for the micro-adjustment system.
The new case measures in at 41mm in diameter, 47.9mm lug-to-lug and an impressive 10.85mm thick. Inside, power comes from a Sellita SW300 with a 54-hour power reserve and official chronometer accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day.
The new C60 Trident Lumière is available with a blue, black or orange dial on a rubber strap from £1,650, or on the new titanium bracelet for £1,985.
