Prior to the arrival of SEAT cars in the UK in 1986, Fiat was a major shareholder in the Spanish company, hence the fact that most of its home-market offerings were re-badged Fiats.

This was certainly the case with the SEAT 131, which was nothing more than a Spanish-built version of the Fiat 131/Mirafiori. In estate guise, however, this family-size SEAT was sold simply as the 131 5 Puertas (131 five-door).

This 1976 publication was dedicated to this most versatile of SEAT 131s, boasting that the car offered ‘más espacio durante muchos años’ – or ‘more space for many years’.

Indeed, so versatile was the 131 5 Puerta, the brochure insisted it was ‘un diseño que lo convierte en las 5 puertas con mayor capacidad de todas fabricadas en España’ – or ‘a design that makes it the best five-door built in Spain’.
