While Rover Group tried to portray more of an upmarket image at the start of the ’90s by badging just about everything as a Rover (including those models originally launched under the Austin banner), it didn’t risk diluting the brand when it came to its car-derived commercials.

That’s why its new-for-1990 van brochure featured the Rover logo on the back cover but referred to the models inside simply as the Metro Van and Maestro Van. Mind you, this particular page did show a Metro with Rover livery being used by a Rover dealership as its delivery vehicle.

The Metro Van of the time was available in (998cc) 310 City and (1275cc) 310L guises, each one offering what the brochure described as a ‘comfortable driving environment’.
