Race Retro returns to Warwickshire’s Stoneleigh Park this weekend (February 21-23), with a stellar line-up of motorsport personalities and star cars
Motorsport fans are set to be spoiled for choice at this weekend’s Race Retro. Hall 3 at Stoneleigh Park will be converted into the ultimate road and racing paddock, with an eclectic mix of Formula One cars ranging from a freshly restored 1980 Shadow DN11to Mark Webber’s 2004 Jaguar R5 being gathered to celebrate F1’s 75th anniversary. In addition, the Circuit Heroes display celebrates the diversity seen on race tracks every season, with a Jowett Jupiter to mark 75 years since it first raced at Le Mans, a striking Lotus Elite and the famous ‘Magic Merlyn’ Formula Ford car all taking part. What’s more, visitors can enjoy the rare sight of three 914/6s together on the Porsche Le Mans display.
Elsewhere, ‘American Champs’ brings together two epic cars from across the pond. The original Richard Petty number 8 NASCAR, a 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix, will sit next to the 1983 Jaguar XJR-5 Group 44 racer that won the US Road Atlanta 500 km race in May 1985. Meanwhile, a display celebrating 70 years of Motorsport News will feature the 1954 Jaguar D-Type prototype famously driven to Le Mans, plus a Martini-liveried Lancia 037 recreation used in the recent film Race for Glory: Audi vs Lancia.
With epic displays of rally cars from all eras on the Rallying with Group B stand and 20 cars used in all disciplines of motorsport vying for the visitors’ votes in the Pride of the Paddock competition, Hall 3 is set to be a hive of activity – and that’s without mentioning all the personalities set to appear.
An unparalleled line-up of racing legends will grace the Talk Motorsport stage, including BTCC stars Matt Neal and Jason Plato, Welsh rally icons Nicky Grist and Dai Llewellin, experienced racer Mike Wilds, and World record holder Donald Wales – the grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE. Finnish ‘Rally Professor’ Rauno Aaltonen will also appear, 60 years after winning the European Rally Championship.
You can purchase advance tickets online before midnight tonight (February 20). For more information see raceretro.com
