Almost exactly 35 years ago, Volvo issued this eye-catching advert for the 240 range, which started in price at a highly competitive £7340.
It showed various onlookers shocked to see a Ford Granada being driven up the nearest wall, accompanied by this headline: ‘He’s just discovered that a Volvo would have cost £564 less than his new Granada’.
The Swedish firm’s marketing folk knew how to create an attention-grabbing ad back in 1982, although this particular one was unusual for not showing a Volvo in any way.
