To mark its passing, Volkswagen issued this advert for the final UK-spec Beetle, showing the car heading off into the top right-hand corner of the page as the text explained its demise: ‘So finally the time has come. The Beetle is about to bid adieu.’  The ‘Going, going…’ headline, meanwhile, confirmed it all: this icon of German motoring would soon be gone.
