Hundreds of cars gathered to celebrate the automotive culture of the 1980s and 1990s at Hagerty’s RADwood UK event on September 7

RADwood UK took over the Historic Dockyard Chatham earlier this month with iconic cars of the 1980s and 1990s complemented by owners and visitors wearing anything from zebra-patterned trousers to shell-suits, as well as a backdrop of ’80s and ’90s music and cultural references.

A stellar line-up of star cars comprising a Ferrari F40 LM, a Koenig BMW 6 Series, a  Lamborghini Countach and a Porsche 959 shared show space with modified motors from the Max Power Reunion, plus a whole host of emblematic cars. Highlights included a purple TVR, a brown Saab 900 still sporting its original decals, plenty of fast Fords and even an ’80s wedge icon in the shape of an Aston Martin Lagonda,

The award for RADdest Car of the Show went to Andrew Tidy’s BMW E21 3 Series, saved from the crusher for just £50 before a four-year rebuilt culminating in a drag racing monster that features a spotless 500bhp Chevrolet V8 engine, immaculate interior and pristine blue paintwork.

Category winners included a bright orange Peugeot 106 GTi that fulfilled all the criteria of the Max Power generation, Hussain Sarwar’s wide-bodied BMW 8 Series, Mark Lane’s Ford Granada, Luke Blackshire Nissan Stagea RS4S, Ariel Jaskiewicz’s E30 BMW M3 and a black Porsche 928S.

“RADwood is unique in the way it celebrates both the cars and the culture of the ’80s and ’90s,” said Hagerty’s Mark Roper. “Hagerty already celebrates the mundane motors of the 70s, 80s and 90s with our Festival of the Unexceptional, and both of these events bring a new audience to the world of classic car culture and perfectly demonstrate how classic car events can be fun immersive and engaging for all the family.”
