The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) launched its MoT reminder service in November – a scheme aimed at cutting the number of motorists unintentionally breaking the law.
DVSA research found that 28 per cent of registered cars on the roads were out of test – leaving their owners liable for a fine of up to £1000.
Using the service, motorists can now receive MoT test reminders by text message and email. Private and franchised garages offer similar programmes.
The system will be tested during its ‘beta’ phase; linked to the MoT database, subscribers will get a reminder one month before their MoT is due.
Another reminder will be issued if a car hasn’t been tested two weeks before its test is up.
