Three enthusiasts complete drive in two classic Minis from Hong Kong to the UK covering some 18,000km

Three intrepid enthusiasts from Hong Kong, Vincent, Ken and Billy, have completed a mammoth 18,000km (11,184 miles) drive to the UK in a pair of classic Minis.

The trio set off on July 9 with the intention of attending the International Mini Meeting in Sussex, but when the event was cancelled well into their journey, they headed for Taunton instead, where an alternative called Mini Cheese and Cider had been set up by long-term Mini enthusiasts Andy McPhail and Emma Slocombe.

When they finally arrived in Somerset, late on the evening of August 23, it was to a well-deserved heroes’ welcome.

Organised to cater for those left in limbo by the IMM cancellation, the event saw 200 people from 19 countries in attendance. However, the trio from Hong Kong was deservedly awarded the furthest travelled gong.

Their route included China, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Belgium, France and more besides. The Minis are now set to be shipped back to Hong Kong after touring around the UK for several days.
