FBHVC SEEK MOT CLARIFICATION

FBHVC SEEK MOT CLARIFICATION

Posted by Matt Bell on 8th February 2019

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) has argued that changes to requirements for MOT testing of historic vehicles can leave drivers “at risk from ill-briefed policeman.”

MoT exemption was amended last May to include vehicles on a rolling 40 year basis, in line with the historic VED class. However, there has been some bureaucratic misunderstanding of the situation.. “We all became aware that a real example that had arisen and that the driver of a historic vehicle had received a Notice of Prosecution,” reads the FBHVC website.

“The Federation urgently sought clarification of the position from the Department of Transport. We are glad to confirm that they responded promptly and positively and have provided us with the statement we copy here, which we think sets out the position clearly and succinctly and will be of real use to our members.”

The FBHVC has suggested the declaration could be printed out and carried in your vehicle to avoid confusion. It can be found on the website, http://fbhvc.co.uk.
