Drop-in EV conversion kit now available from specialist Electrogenic to take the DeLorean DMC-12 back to the future

Famed classic EV-converter Electrogenic has launched its drop-in electric powertrain swap for the DeLorean DMC-12, joining the firm’s other conversions for the Land Rover Defender, classic Porsche 911, Mini and Jaguar E-Type.

Replacing the thirsty and underpowered PRV V6, Electrogenic’s EV conversion utilises a 43kWh battery pack fitted in place of the fuel tank, along with an electric motor that produces the equivalent of 215bhp, dropping the 0-60mph time from 11.1 seconds to 4.9 seconds.

The exhaustively developed drop-in package is available now via Electrogenic’s carefully vetted global installer network, which includes numerous partners in the United States.

The DeLorean EV conversion package, which is entirely reversible and requires no structural alteration to the DMC-12, uses Electrogenic’s proprietary market-leading EV powertrain technology, which is said to “transform the driving experience with smooth, effortless electric performance.” Using CAD (Computer Aided Design), the DeLorean structure, dimensions and layout were mapped out to allow seamless accommodation of the electric drivetrain, which can be fitted to both manual and automatic cars.

Electrogenic’s engineers have also dialled configurability into the driving experience with a series of selectable drive profiles to suit different scenarios, from a range-enhancing ‘Eco’ mode, to sharpened ‘Sport’ setting.

The DMC-12 kit also features launch control – a first for an Electrogenic conversion – making frankly antisocial acceleration possible. The conversion delivers over 150 miles of range in real world driving, and will rapid charge in an hour.

The DeLorean, as with all Electrogenic EV conversions, is also capable of V2L, supplying 3kW of 240V AC for charging or powering household appliances if you so wish.
