Four intrepid Volkswagen enthusiasts are taking part in a three-day charity drive from the UK to Spain in May, raising money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. They’ll be one of around 200 teams heading to Jokers Bar in Benidorm on Saturday May 18, with most raising money for various charities.

The Air Ambulance is a poignant choice for team member Darren Mears: “My family has used their services on two occasions, once for my father to be air lifted to hospital after he had a heart attack and the second for my son after he was involved in a serious car collision. Thankfully both are still here today. Without the Air Ambulance this would be a different story.

“Each mission the Air Ambulance is sent out on costs £3500, so support is desperately needed for this incredibly worthwhile charity.”

The four team members own a variety of new and old VW campers and car, and have decided to do the trip in a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. They have bought a yellow example and have made it up to resemble the Iconic Beatles Yellow Submarine, or DubSub as they have called it.

The team is currently looking for sponsorship to fill the space on raise and raise money. You can donate to the cause by searching for Darren Mears via www.justgiving.com. Progress can also be found on the team’s Facbook page – search for ‘4 Men in a Dub Sub.’
