Resplendent in special-order Light Green, this Bentley S2 has travelled to the moon and back (almost) in the care of just two owners

Famed Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist P&A Wood, based in Essex, is currently offering up for sale a 1962 Bentley S2 Continental Flying Spur by Mulliner – but this is no ordinary example of the breed.

The car – chassis number BC109CZ – was ordered new by Mr H.C. Green, whose wife was an artist. She chose the Bentley’s special-order shade of Light Green after experimenting with watercolour paints on a profile image of the model’s H.J. Mulliner coachwork.

Over the next 30 years, Mr & Mrs Green would cover almost 440,000 miles, with the Bentley used daily. Maintained to the highest standards by P&A Wood since the late 1960s, the Bentley’s history file is appropriately vast, featuring hand-written notes, invoices and letters.

The car’s second owner topped up its impressive mileage to the 458,000 figure it sits at today – enough to have travelled to the moon (about 239,000 miles or so) and most of the way back, or about 18 times around the circumference of the Earth.

Remarkably, the Bentley has not been restored during its eventful life; ongoing mechanical and cosmetic work has been carried out as required and the S2 now presents very well as a result.

This extraordinary Bentley S2 is priced at £145,000, which seems about right given its unique backstory.

Introduced in 1959, the Bentley S2 was the first of the brand’s cars to use the iconic L-Series V8 engine. The Continental was the high-performance variant boasting more power and higher gearing; of the 1,920 S2s made, just 388 were made in Continental specification as seen here.
