With over 200 lots crossing the blocks, WB & Sons’ September 14 sale was its biggest ever and a very successful one at that

Fords of all sorts proved popular at WB & Sons latest sale, the most unusual being the 1995 Fiesta Van – boasting a full RS1800 conversion including bodykit, Recaro seats and the Zetec engine, it beat its estimate to fetch £4360. Next came a very smart-looking 1981 Mk2 Escort 1.3L Huntsman estate, one of 150 produced and thought to be one third of the surviving total – its excellent condition saw it sell for £8500.

Fast Ford fans will have liked the unmodified and very tidy 2006 Mk6 Fiesta ST, which sold at the upper end of its estimate for £2998. Older hot Ford offerings came in the form of a 1984 Sierra XR4i which, despite its lack of MoT, used its (unverified 12,000 miles) to good effect to sell for £8175, while the extensively-modified 1975 Mk2 Escort with 2.1-litre Pinto and five-speed gearbox found a new home for £10,355.

Luxury cars enjoyed some impressive results too, including the 2007 X150 XK that sold without reserve for £4905 and 1979 Jaguar XJ12, while looked in very tidy condition and beat its lower estimate to sell for £5178. A 1989 Mercedes W126 500SEL with the rare Lorinser bodykit sold for £4905, while the very smart 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II cut a dash in Moorland Green over Pewter and flew past its £10,000–14,000 estimate to sell for £16,350. Fanciers of more left-field luxury bid the pampered 2004 Lexus SC430 up to £5450, while the 2004 Bentley Continental GT sold for a bargainous £8720.

There were sports cars for all tastes and budgets selling, headlined by the 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 that looked extremely smart following recent restoration and boasted a rebuilt engine with Cosworth pistons – the winning bidder saw fit to pay £31,065.

A seemingly rust-free example of the Mk1 Toyota MR2 found a new home for £2998, beating its upper estimate by nearly £1000, while a 2001 MGF offered without reserve and boasting the factory hardtop as well as a fresh cambelt and head gasket was hammered away for £1744.

Porsche fans bid the 1987 924S far beyond its £2000–3000 estimate up to £4251, while the delightful Primrose Yellow 1959 Austin-Healey Frogeye Sprite sold mid-estimate for £11,200 and the equally yellow 2001 Lotus Elise S2 beat its upper estimate to fetch £8448.
