CCA’s final sale of the year served up a great mix of familiar icons and modern classics with plenty to suit all tastes
Under its new title of Classic Car Auctions by Iconic Auctioneers, CCA’s final sale of 2024 at the Warwickshire Event Centre on Saturday December 7 found homes for the vast majority of the 100 classics crossing the blocks.
Turn of the century prestige was in high demand, a 2000 Mercedes CLK55 AMG looking smart and pleasingly original sold without reserve for £5625, while another CLK in 320 Cabriolet guise had just 6300 miles to its name and was described as in “remarkable, almost showroom condition” – it sold for an impressive £19,125. A menacing 2004 Jaguar XKR Convertible Carbon Edition was one of just 50 produced and fetched £10,688, while a 2005 Bentley Continental Flying Spur sold for £12,375 and a 2004 GT variant of the same model with an ultra-low 16,000 miles fetched £25,875. More affordable luxury came courtesy of the 1985 Daimler DS420 Limousine which, despite requiring some tidying, looked a bargain at £1350, while a 1986 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 Quattrovalvole – one of just 91 right-hand drive examples – looked great value at £19,687.
Not that the Ferrari was the only sports car on offer – a 1972 Triumph TR6 PI showed just 59,000 miles sold for £16,313, while a 1984 Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special with a meagre 18,600 miles to its name sold for £9000. The low-mileage theme continued with a 25,000-mile 2003 Audi TT 3.2 V6 quattro fetching £7538 and a 9100-mile example of the Mk3 Toyota MR2 selling for £9000. Elsewhere, a Calypso Red 1988 Lotus Esprit S4 changed hands for £15,750, while an unusual 2006 Smart Brabus Roadster Final Edition was sold for £12,375 and a 1974 Jaguar E-Type V12 roadster in rare manual guise achieved a £42,750 sale price.
If you preferred a hot hatch to a sports car, though, there was the 1992 Ford Escort Cosworth that boasted tuning to reportedly over 400bhp and sold for £38,813, or a very smart-looking 1984 Vauxhall Astra GTE Mk1, whose new owner saw fit to pay £20,813 for.
A pair of high-performance pickup trucks in the form of a 2005 Ford F150 Lightning and 2004 Holden Maloo R8 proved popular, selling for £14,625 and £15,188 respectively, while humbler load-lugging ability was offered by the highly original 1979 Ford Cortina Mk5 2.0 Ghia estate, which fetched £3938. If even that isn’t basic enough, however, the fantastically well-restored 1964 Morris Minor Traveller looked immaculate and earned itself a hefty £17,156 sale price.
