Summer holidays and busy roads couldn’t prevent Anglia Car Auctions from enjoying another busy two-day sale at its King’s Lynn base

Over 300 lots were included at ACA’s latest sale on August 24–25, with automobilia, cherished registrations and motorcycles joining the wide variety of classics entered.

Traditional, older classics performed well, not least a 1947 Bentley MkIV Estate with an unusual wood-clad body, which sold for £16,200 against a £5000–7000 estimate. In addition, a 1948 Rover P3 75 Sports soared past its £8000–10,000 guide to make £13,608, and a Morris Minor Traveller from 1969 beat its top estimate by more than £3000 to finish up at £11,016. To continue the theme, a rare 1962 Ford Zodiac Farnham Estate changed hands for £17,496, and another load-lugging scarcity in the shape of a 1960 Vauxhall Cresta Friary Estate sold for £8964.

More modest in size but not in price was a restored 1967 Austin Mini Van, which was one of a remarkable 15 Minis in the sale and sold above its top estimate for £21,600. Elsewhere, a lovely two-door Vauxhall Viva 1300 GLS offered with no reserve sold for £8208, with a humble 1983 Datsun Stanza 1.6 GL also surprising by selling for £5184 against a £2500–3500 guide.

Hot Fords were also well represented – particularly Mk3 Escorts. An early 1983 XR3i that had been off the road since 1992 made an impressive £5508, but this was dwarfed by the £16,956 achieved by a 1982 RS1600i, and the £16,503 made by a 1985 RS Turbo. Alongside, a Mk2 RS2000 Custom sold for £28,080, and a 1983 Capri 2.0S changed hands for £12,204. Skipping forward a generation, two examples of the RS Focus were offered, with one selling for a bargain £10,260 and the other for £18,900.

An intriguing hot saloon proved what happens when the Ford tax is not applied, with an ultra-rare Renault 21 Turbo Quadra from 1991 selling for a modest £4968. Elsewhere, a Vauxhall Carlton 3.0 GSi 24V sold above its estimate for £9612, and a 1992 Daimler Double-Six with a TWR bodykit did likewise at £11,070.

The sale also featured projects aplenty, with many selling for three figures. However, an Alvis TD21 proved to be an exception at £5940, as did a 1969 Lotus Elan Coupe. Off the road for 33 years, it beat its £10,000–12,00 guide to make £17,280.
