Perthshire-based Morris Leslie is preparing for another varied classic sale packed full of interesting lots. Here’s what to expect
Morris Leslie’s next classic auction has plenty to tempt bidders to its Perthshire headquarters, with around 100 cars, commercials, motorcycles and pieces of automobilia entered and more arriving at time of writing.
The sports cars quota is plentiful and diverse, from a 2007 Mazda MX-5 NC with just 65,000 miles to its name that’s guided at £2250–3000, to an equally red 1987 Porsche 924S that boasts the 944’s 2.5-litre engine and could be yours for £4000–5000. A budget of £8000–10,000 is expected to be enough for a later 968 Cabriolet dating from 1994, while a 1985 Bertone-built Fiat X1/9 VS that comes from a long-term ownership and shows just 48,000 miles carried a £6000–7000 guide. There’s a couple of Brits too, with a 1970 Triumph Spitfire Mk3 that boasts rebuilt brakes, a later 1500 engine with unleaded head conversion, reupholstered seats and new wire wheels expected to sell for just £3750–4500, and a 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint with various choice upgrades guided at £25,000–27,500.
If luxury is more your thing, a 1996 Mercedes W140 S320 could be a bargain if the £1500–2250 guide is realised, and the same goes for an outwardly tidy 1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow that will require brake and fuel system work, but is temptingly offered without reserve. Alongside, a 1989 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit in exemplary condition and with just 27,000 miles recorded carries a £16,500-£17,500 estimate, with a similar guide of £17,000–18,000 placed on a 20,000-mile 1990 Bentley Turbo R. For those preferring something older, a 1961 Rover P4 100 looks smart throughout and is guided at just £3000–3750.
There are plenty of potential bargains, too – a 1961 Wolseley 1500 with just 60,000 (albeit unverified) miles on the clock could sell for as little as £750–1250, while a 1995 Volkswagen Golf Mk3 1.4 that’s been family-owned for 28 years and shows 63,000 miles is expected to fetch £1000–1500 – exactly the same guide as a 1.8 Cabriolet from the same year. In addition, a V6 example of the often-overlooked Ford Cougar carries a £2000–2750 estimate, while £1750–2500 could be enough to buy a 2000 Mercedes SLK230 Kompressor that’s recently had bodywork restoration including front wings, rear quarters and a colour change.
You’ll also find a 30,000-mile Peugeot 106, which appears spotless and is estimated at £2250–3000. This is joined by tastefully upgraded (albeit not currently running) example of 1987 205 GTI, which is guided at just £1000–1500. For the full catalogue, head to morrisleslie.com
