A key part of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, Iconic’s next sale is set to be a highlight of the year as always
One of the major highlights at the annual Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC is the Iconic Auctioneers sale, and this year will be no exception. Held on the Saturday of the event, it will be the firm’s final auction of 2024 and is set to be lined with over 170 standout classics to suit all tastes.
Jaguars are on offer in abundance, a particular highlight being the 1977 XJ-C restored and converted to supercharged XJR power by specialist, Tom Lenthall – it carries no reserve and all proceeds (along with Iconic’s fees) will be donated to the RNLI.
Numerous E-types also feature, including a 1967 Series 1 4.2 roadster that’s had more than £100,000 spent on restoration and carries an £80,000–100,000 guide, a 1970 Series 2 roadster imported from America that’s guided at £40,000–45,000, and a 25,000-mile 1970 Series 2 FHC that’s offered without reserve.
Bookending the E-types are a 1952 XK120 coupe with an S-Spec engine and a remarkably low £35,000–45,000 guide, as well as a 5000-mile 1994 Jaguar XJS 6.0 V12 Insignia that was ordered new by a royal dignitary, is described as being ‘cossetted its whole life’ and is guided at £50,000–60,000.
If you fancy a classic with rallying pedigree, there’s plenty to excite you. A seemingly immaculate and unmodified 1998 Mitsubishi Evo V imported from Japan is expected to make £20,000–25,000, while a 2002 STI Prodrive example of its Subaru Impreza arch-rival carries an £18,000–24,000 guide. However, we’d expect more eyes to be on the ultra-rare 1989 Gen-1 Legacy RS saloon that’s described as in “time-warp condition” and has just 22,500 miles on the clock, which equates to a £20,000–30,000 estimate.
Other rally-bred heroes include a multi-championship-winning 1970 Ford Escort Mk1 TwinCam that’s been restored to pristine condition and is estimated at £65,000–75,000, while a 1992 Lux example of its Escort Cosworth spiritual successor is estimated at an even loftier £80,000–100,000 on account of its 2221 recorded miles. Fast Ford fans might also fancy the 2800-mile 1990 Sierra Sapphire Cosworth Rouse Sport 304-R that’s guided at £70,000–80,000, or the 29,000-mile 1989 Escort RS Turbo Series 2 with its £30,000–35,000 estimate.
Several potential bargains also feature in the way of a 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser 70-Series, a 2008 BMW Z4 3.0 Coupe and extremely yellow 1999 Skoda Felicia Fun, all of which are offered without reserve. Elsewhere, a charming 1978 Citroën 2CV Fourgonette van has been fully restored and is guided at £10,000–12,000, while a 1998 Porsche ‘996’ 911 Carrera could be yours for as little as £12,000–16,000.
