This Reliant Scimitar GT SE4B was first registered in April 1970, so is one of the later cars of the small production run of just 590, making it a rare car today. Styled by Ogle and built with robust Ford mechanicals, the Scimitar was an expensive car in its day and was aimed at the long distance Grand Tourer market. The example offered is in excellent mechanical and structural order; the previous owner spent a long time looking for a car in such condition albeit in need of cosmetic attention. Mechanical upgrades include a stainless steel exhaust, a new aluminium fuel tank, electric fan and a single battery relocated to the boot with an isolator. The Ford V6 engine starts instantly and shows good oil pressure. There is a very healthy rasp from the stainless exhaust system which encourages spirited driving. On the road the Scimitar feels very good. I’ve driven a few of these cars and this one is nice and tight with no rattles or squeaks and excellent steering and handling. The clutch, gearbox and brakes all work well. There is an overdrive fitted which works on 3rd and top. The car is fitted with desirable Wolfrace alloy wheels including the spare. The paintwork is flat and there is some cracking in places. However, this car is all about the driving. The original air cleaner and steering wheel come with the car. These early Scimitars seldom come onto the market and this example represents an affordable entry point with a car that can be used and improved over time.
