1950 MG YA in excellent restored condition. Recently re-finished in an attractive shade of cream, the YA presents extremely well and is complimented by the new red leather upholstery. The Y Type interior is quite luxurious with piped leather seats, wooden door cappings and a burr walnut dashboard. These are all in super condition along with a new headlining and carpets. The Y Type has a sunroof as standard which is in working condition on this example. Mechanically the car is in good order and the 1250cc XPAG engine provides willing performance very much belying the car’s age. The car is very enjoyable to drive with good steering and handling thanks to the independent front suspension – the first Nuffield product to be so equipped. The Y Type was conceived in 1939 and was styled by Gerald Palmer who also designed the independent front suspension. The war put paid to any chance of production and it was not until 1947 before the Y Type was finally launched, remaining in production until 1953. Against the industry trend, the Y Type featured a separate chassis underneath the pressed steel bodywork. This allowed the car to be fitted with the hydraulically operated “Jackall System” enabling the car to be jacked up without having to carry a separate jack. There is a decent history file which includes a buff RF60 log book, receipts for the restoration and service literature. We would be happy to take an interesting vehicle in part exchange.
