Description

The Jensen Interceptor III (Mk III) is a luxurious GT-class car produced from 1971 to 1976 by Jensen Motors, notable for its Chrysler V8 engines, Italian-styled bodywork, and standard features like air conditioning. It featured revised styling, GKN alloy wheels, and a 7.2-liter (440ci) engine, representing the final major iteration of the iconic hand-built British grand tourer. The Mark III was divided into G-, H-, and J-series depending on the production year. Primarily equipped with the Chrysler 7.2-liter (440ci) V8, replacing the earlier 6.3-liter (383ci) engine, standard features included air conditioning, GKN alloy wheels, and revised seats. Revisions from the Mk II included a new front grille, headlamp finishers, and bumper treatments. The high-performance ‘SP’ (Six Pack) variant, released in 1971, featured three two-barrel carburettors and was among the most powerful cars of its time. The distinctive body was designed by Touring of Italy and manufactured by Vignale. A Chrysler TorqueFlite automatic transmission was standard. The Mk III is renowned as the most refined version, balancing high-speed grand touring with increased luxury, popular among celebrities of the era, and used in many films and TV programmes from the day.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a well-sorted Jensen to transport yourself back to the 1970s and dust off those flares and platforms. Supplied new as a factory demonstrator in the body colour of cerise red, original extras included an 8-track player, duo tone paint, quartz iodine fog lamps, rare louvered bonnet, rear seat belts, sheepskin seat inserts and coachline. Well-maintained during its life with a comprehensive service history file and restoration invoices with a total of £80,000 spent on her and £16k in the last 4 years with an additional £4k spent this July on brake upgrades. Sensible upgrades include electronic overdrive that can be disabled and an upgraded alternator.

This example is well known in Jensen circles and has led a very charmed life, you only have to go through the pack and see the monies spent to keep it in this amazing condition - invoices, newspaper articles, workshop manuals, handbooks, owner’s club magazines, the list goes on in a very well put together history. Then factor in that it has been in a very well-heeled and private collection where it has been regularly cleaned and fettled, you begin to get the idea. Even in its early life this Jensen was given a charmed upbringing, and it tells.

To finish off the specification, as well as the striking colour combination and contrasting interior, it has a rare and original Webasto-style sunroof, vinyl roof, Pirelli Cinturato tyres and lambswool centre section in the seats - all giving this Jensen a very distinctive look and truly unique. If you have a desire to own an Interceptor, now is the time and this is the one. You will be hard pushed to find another as good as this in this price range.
