REVIEW: SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS SEPTEMBER SALE. SOUTHAM, SEPTEMBER 28
Silverstone Auctions’ inaugural September Sale too place at Dallas Burston Polo Club, Warwickshire, on September 28. The 50 lots included a fascinating selection of prestige brands, sports cars and homologation specials, with a Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4×4 and a MkI Escort RS1600 both achieving record prices.
A desirable UK-supplied, right-hand drive 1971 Maserati Indy 4.7 America stood out among the traditional classics on offer, selling for more than £10,000 above its estimate at £60,750, while a pre-production 1982 Audi Quattro Coupe, believed to be the first UK right-hand drive example, sold for £49,500 after 20 years in storage.
Also notable was a 1984 Renault 5 Turbo 2 (above) in left-hand drive and showing just 16,898 miles, which sold for £86,625 – more than £16,000 above its lower estimate. For the full results list, see Silverstone Auctions
The first record breaker was a 1990 Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4×4, believed to be one of the first six examples available on the UK market. Showing just 13,310 recorded miles and accompanied with a complete history file, dealer book packs, tax discs and MoT test certificates, it sold for £52,750.
Also setting new ground was a 1972 Ford Escort RS1600. Fully restored to a reported high standard and finished in period correct Le Mans Green, the immaculate example was bought for £70,875 following a long bidding war.
The annual Porsche Sale, in association with Porsche Club GB, took place before the September Sale and also saw a number of spectacular prices. Among them was this rare 1998 Porsche 993 Turbo S, one of only 26 UK right-hand drive examples and finished in rare Pastel Yellow. A selling price of £185,625 made it one the most valuable lots of the day.
