If the MG Montego Turbo is now a rare sight in the UK, imagine how scarce a model it must be in the Netherlands, where it would have been seen as very much of a niche offering. So when I came across a Dutch-market brochure for this much-maligned MG on a certain auction website the other week, I couldn’t resist hitting the ‘Buy It Now’ tab.
The Montego Turbo was, of course, an extremely quick car in its day. But it was also a comfortable family saloon, as Austin Rover Nederland BV was understandably keen to point out: “De Montego heeft buitengewoon veel beenruimte achterin; heel plezierig voor de achterpassagiers,” explained this neat fold-out brochure.
All of which roughly translates as “The Montego has extraordinary rear legroom, very enjoyable for the rear passengers.” Well, we’re not going to argue with that!
