Eight decades since the first hillclimb event was held at Prescott in May 1938, the historic Gloucestershire venue plans to celebrate with a special reunion of former hill record holders, on Saturday, July 14.
1960s pacesetter and multiple Hillclimb champion David Boshier-Jones, Martyn Griffiths, David Grace, David Franklin, Alister Douglas-Osborn and Chris Cramer are among the list of confirmed attendees.
The ladies’ record holders will also be well represented with former record holders Joy Rainey, Margaret Blankstone-Schoiber, Sandra Tomlin and Sue Young on site. Many of the racers will be re-united with suitable cars from their era, either for a parade or competitive runs.
The event will feature 150 cars on track, including a special class for Bugattis – Prescott, home to the Bugatti Owners’ Club, expects more than a few representatives of the Molsheim marque to turn up.
Prescott Hillclimb remains committed to its ‘access all areas’ approach as it has done from its 1938 inception; the pit lanes and staging areas will, as ever, be open to members of the public. As motoring enthusiast (and former Pink Floyd drummer) Nick Mason said: “It’s club motorsport at its best, where visitors can mingle with the cars and speak to the drivers.”
