Historics gears up for its Pace of Autumn sale later this month, with over 180 exciting lots of all ages set to go under the hammer
Ascot Racecourse will be the venue as Historics hosts its ‘Pace of Autumn’ sale on September 20. There were 182 lots consigned at time of writing, with everything from pre-war specials to modern-day supercars among them.
The headliner looks set to be a 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II, which is one of a whopping 11 Astons set to be offered in the sale and is estimated at £350,000-£370,000. It joins a host of entries with six-figure guide prices, though not all are cars you might expect. A 1981 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus prepared by Tolman could fetch as much as £165,000, while a 1999 Nissan Skyline R34 GTR is estimated at £115,000-£145,000. There’s also a 1990 Lister Le Mans – a 7.0-litre, 200mph monster based on a Jaguar XJ-S – which is expected to sell for £110,000-£130,000.
Big premium brand saloons feature heavily in the sale, including a 1998 Rolls-Royce Park Ward Limousine guided at £75,000-£90,000, plus a wide selection of Bentleys. But perhaps most interesting is a premium estate; a Bentley Val D’Isere, no less, a rare all-wheel drive ‘shooting brake’ believed to be one of 11 examples commissioned by the Brunei Royal Family. Complete with an incredibly garish blue and yellow interior, the 1992 example is thought to be the only one in private ownership and is estimated at £105,000-£135,000. It’s not the only estate with provenance though, as the Jaguar X-Type first owned Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is back at auction, carrying a guide of £20,000-£25,000. Without notable former owners but still very attractive, meanwhile, is a 1994 Audi RS2 Avant, estimated at £47,000-£52,000.
Fords play a starring role too, with a curious mint green Sierra RS Cosworth that was customised in the Max Power era guided at £15,000-£20,000. Also offered is what’s believed to be the only Mk1 Escort Mexico sold in black, which was fitted with a 3.0-litre engine by Super Speed when only two years old. It could fetch as much as £72,000, while a 1974 RS1600 model is guided at £65,000-£70,000.
If your pockets aren’t that deep, fear not. A host of entries are offered with reserve, such as a 1994 Jaguar XJ12 (XJ81), a BMW E30 3 Series Convertible, a low-mileage Audi TT Roadster from Japan, a 1944 Lancia Ardea, a 1990 Bentley Turbo R and a 1982 Mini HLE. Oddballs, meanwhile, include a VW Type 181 ‘Kurierwagen’, a BMW 600 and a Tesla Roadster.
