Mitsubishi Motors UK celebrates its 50th anniversary with a 100-mile Golden Jubilee Tour
Five decades on from commencing sales in Britain with 1974’s Colt Lancer, Mitsubishi Motors UK celebrated with a Golden Jubilee rally. Enthusiastic owners of Mitsubishis from all eras met at Watermoor Point in Cirencester, the firm’s headquarters, with cars including numerous generations of the Lancer Evolution, a Galant, a Mk1 Shogun and even a humble Space Star MPV.
The group was waved off on a 100-mile run through the Cotswolds by Jack Morris-Marsham, one of the founders of The Colt Car Company, now known as Mitsubishi Motors UK. Following stops at the Prescott Hill Climb and the Classic Motor Hub in Bibury, the rally concluded at Badminton House, long associated with Mitsubishi Motors thanks to the company’s 28-year sponsorship of the world-famous Badminton Horse Trials.
After presenting numerous awards to standout cars – Alister Scott’s 1999 Mk2 Shogun taking Best Overall Vehicle on account of its remarkable originality – Stephen Blackburn, son of the main founder of The Colt Car Company (David Blackburn) announced that The Colt Car Club is being launched at the NEC Classic Motor Show in November. It plans to hold annual events similar to the jubilee rally, and will cater for all Mitsubishi and Colt models.
Sharon Townsend, Head of Mitsubishi Motors UK, said: “The brand still has a very loyal and passionate customer and owner base, and to celebrate this event with such devoted brand enthusiasts was very rewarding.”
