There were plenty of bargains to be had at Classic Car Auctions’ (CCA) sale at the Classic and Performance Car Spectacular at Tatton Park
CCA’s latest auction took centre stage at the Tatton Park Classic and Performance Car Spectacular show on Saturday, 1 June with a catalogue filled with projects, modern-classic icons and blue-chip collector’s items.
First, the bargains: a 1980 Austin Mini resplendent in Surf Blue and benefitting from a reshell and 998cc Cooper engine was offered with no reserve and sold for just £2,137, while an ultra-rare 1991 Maserati 222 E – one of 210 imported to the UK – went for just £2,250 despite its sub-34k mileage and MOT. A 1994 BMW 318i saloon with less than 13k kilometres on the clock was a perfect starter classic for £2,812.
The Drayton Collection was a centrepiece of the catalogue, comprising multiple Land Rover and Range Rover models mostly in need of TLC. All went on to new homes for very keen prices: just £843 secured a 1993 Range Rover Vogue LSE project, a running and driving 1992 Range Rover Vogue Brooklands went for £1,800 and a ‘Suffix-A’ three-door Range Rover from 1971 returned £3,262. Away from the Range Rovers, a genuine 1995 Camel Trophy Discovery was secured for £13,500 and a nicely restored 1956 Series I went for £10,250.
While some of the more premium cars in the catalogue didn’t sell this time, the market’s continued fondness for affordable luxury was clear to see. A meticulously maintained 1995 Bentley Brooklands made £12,938, while a 1985 Mercedes 500SL R107 – glorious in Royal Blue and with matching hardtop – went for £13,218.
Just £2,230 secured a well-used yet seemingly well cared-for C124 Mercedes 320CE 24v, meanwhile, while a brave buyer secured a 2000 Ferrari 456M GTA – fresh from a mechanical overhaul but in need of some cosmetic attention – for £19,833.
Japanese icons of the 1990s and early 2000s continue to prove popular at auction, although prices remain sensible. A rare Prodrive-fettled 2008 Subaru Impreza GB270 looked great value at £6,554, while a 1998 Subaru Impreza Terzo – one of 333 special editions created to celebrate the brand’s third WRC title – sold for £8,325. A collectible first-generation, Japan-only WRX STi with 70k on the clock went for £10,125. Elsewhere, a 1990 Mitsubishi 3000GT offered lots of performance for the money at £3,150.
