Brightwells’ classic and Online Garage sales impressed again this month. Here are some highlights
A Brightwells classic car auction never fails to turn up a range of interesting and unusual cars, and the May 8 sale was no exception. The sale was complemented by the firm’s Online Garage sale ending May 9, meaning that a diverse range of entries were offered.
Prestige motoring was in demand, with a 41,000-mile Porsche 993 911 Cabriolet that looked to be a lovely example selling for £48,790. A 1990 Bentley Mulsanne S that came with a reassuringly hefty history file to back up its 45,000 miles sold for a hefty £13,440, while the final low-mileage slice of 1990s prestige was a 1995 BMW 840Ci with a meagre 44,000 miles on the clock, which fetched £8960. There was even a Ferrari – saved from a barn, the 1974 365 GT4 offered a rare project opportunity and even included its original toolkit, earning it a £15,680 sale price.
British favourites also proved popular – a 2006 Morgan Plus 4 with just 30,000 miles to its name sold for £29,624, and a 1968 Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible sporting a twin-carb Spitfire engine, overdrive gearbox, servo-assisted brakes, electronic ignition, LED lights and MGF seats sold for an alluring £5040. In addition, a 1981-registered MGB GT that looked smart in Pageant Blue and included two hefty history files found a new home for £3976, while a 1973 GT in Damask Red that had been converted to V8 power sold for £11,267.
Not that it was the only V8 sports car on offer – a 1966 Corvette C2 Stingray Roadster in rare 5.7-litre manual guise and painted in an appropriately bright yellow made a hefty £53,312. Elsewhere, those after a humbler sports car were charmed by a 1978 Fiat X/19. A lovely example with 59,000 miles, it included its original luggage set and wheels to go with the Minilite-style items it came on, equating to an £8131 sale.
Next came the Online Garage sale 9, where a tidy and extremely rare 1989 Ford Sierra Sapphire 2000E fetched £4116, before the even rarer 1989 VW Caddy Pick-up sold for £2296. Prestige continued to sell well, with our very own 2006 Bentley Flying Spur selling for £8917, before a 61,000-mile 2005 Jaguar XK8 Convertible changed hands for a hefty £10,371.
A 2002 Mitsubishi Delica Spacegear offered a handy kitchenette in addition to seating for five and four-wheel drive, and looked a bargain at £1171, before a gorgeous but unloved 1977 Daimler Sovereign Coupe sold for £5102. For the full list of results, head to brightwells.com
