Anglia Car Auction’s final sale of 2023 is set to be a cracker with an interesting mixture of established choices, intriguing modern classics and some very rare old survivors
British classics seemed to form the backbone of the entry list at the time of writing this preview for ACA’s upcoming sale, although further lots will be added to the catalogue prior to the November 4-5 auction date.
Amongst several early Austins comes a tidy 1974 1300 GT. Estimated to make £6000–8000, it is ready to roll and really stands out thanks to its smart Black Tulip paint. Those looking for an older Austin might have their heads turned by a 1938 Seven Ruby, very appropriately finished in a ruby hue. Restored just under two years ago, it is also anticipated to sell for between £6000–8000. And sticking with ruby-coloured British classics, a 1979 Daimler 4.2 Vanden Plas that’s had little use for the last 17 years yet is accompanied by over £8000 of invoices could make someone rather happy at its lower estimate of £6000.
A wide range of Fords spanning a 50-year period includes a 1964 Ford Cortina Mk1 1500 GT once owned by ex-RAC British Rally champion, Eric Jackson, and is guided at £18,000–20,000), while £4000–6000 could secure a 1971 Zodiac MK4 showing just 66,689, and a tidy Capri Mk3 2.8 Injection is estimated at £7000-£900. Meanwhile, those in search of a modern classic might fancy a range-topping Focus Mk1 2.0-litre Ghia in Pacific Green that’s showing just 22,088 miles from new and is temptingly offered with no reserve.
We anticipate that a 1967 MG BGT restored three years ago and guided at £5000-£7000 will join a 1969 MGC GT estimated at £12,000–14,000 in having their fair share of admirers. However, if you’re after a sporty British classic then the 1971 Sunbeam Rapier Fastback – soon to be a BBC TV star – could well be tempting at a guide price of £6000–8000.
Away from British classics, a bunch of BMWs caught our eye, amongst them an E21 Alpine C1 2.3 ‘evocation’ guided at £12,000–14,000 and a nice 1991 E30 325i Cabriolet once owned by a husband and wife for over 20 years and resident in Spain for a time, which is estimated at £7000-£9000. Meanwhile, a rare 1967 Fiat 2300 Station Wagon guided at £15,000–18,000 and a bright yellow 1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce S2 estimated at £12,000–16,000 also piqued our interest, the latter having been subjected to extensive restoration work.
