Recently established auction house WB & Sons in Newcastle will follow up its May debut with a second classic car auction on August 7

Taking place at its Killingworth base near Newcastle, the sale is set to include almost 70 entries ranging from a Ford Model A through to a 2009 Volkswagen Passat R36, with rarities such as an Invicta Black Prince, a VW T2-based Jurgens Autovilla and a 1986 Mercedes Unimog in between.

The Invicta is one of 12 examples built and heads up a host of premium-badged cars that also include a 1956 Bentley S1 and a 1999 Arnage Green Label, a pair of Daimler 250 saloons, a 1986 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, a late Jaguar XJS and a very interesting Porsche 911 Super Sport. These are joined by two big Japanese-market saloons in the shape of a 2003 Toyota Crown Athlete and a distinctive 2006 Mitsuoka Galue.

On the flip-side, there are a number of cars that used to be common street furniture, but are now increasingly rare. Examples include a 10,000-mile Vauxhall Nova four-door saloon, a Series 1 Peugeot 106 and a time-warp 1983 Volvo 240DL showing a mere 26,000 miles. Traditional British classics are ably represented too, with no fewer than four classic Minis, a 1970 Wolseley 18/85, an Austin-Healey 100-6 and a Lotus Elan S4 SE. You’ll also find MGB roadsters in both ‘pull-handle’ and late rubber-bumper guises, plus a quintet of Triumphs including a TR4a, a Mk3 Spitfire imported from South Africa, a GT6, a Vitesse and a tastefully upgraded Herald Convertible.

Those looking for fast Fords will also find plenty to choose from. Along with an early 1990 Mk5 Ford Escort 1.4LX that’s covered just 18,000 miles from new, you’ll find a two-door Mk1 Escort and what is surely the tidiest pre-facelift Mk2 Granada we’ve ever seen. Meanwhile, upping the pace is a Mk1 Escort Mexico rally car, a tastefully modified Mk2 Escort, a very late Sierra Cosworth 4×4 and an ultra-rare Tickford Capri Turbo that could sell for as much as £40,000.

With further modern classics including a BMW E36 M3, a 1992 Toyota Celica Convertible and a Fiat Barchetta also offered, along with several motorbikes, the sale should have plenty of bases covered. We’ve picked out some highlights below; for the full auction catalogue, see WB & Sons’ website.

  • Owned by its current custodian for over 20 years, this 1957 Austin-Healey 100/6 has been painstakingly restored and can be driven, but requires some minor jobs to finish it off. The car retains its original registration number and is expected to fetch £30,000-£35,000.
  • Surely a contender for the Holy Grail of Ford Capris, the body-kitted Tickford Turbo cost more than twice as much as a standard 2.8 Injection when new. This 1983 example is car number four out of just 96 made and has appeared in countless magazines. It's estimated at £35,000-£45,000.
  • In case you're wondering what on earth this is, it's a 2006 Mitsuoka Galue. Based on the contemporary Japanese-market Nissan Fuga, this one was used by a hotel and has covered 93,000 miles under its 2.5-litre V6. Such exclusivity is estimated at £6000-£7000
  • Surely one of the best remaining pre-facelift cars available, this 1979 Mk2 Granada 2.8 Ghia is in fabulous condition and boasts such niceties as a brown vinyl roof and a matching velour interior. It shows just 37,000 miles and is guided at £10,000-£12,000.
  • One of just 12 produced and just two with a Jensen body, this pioneering 1950 Invicta Black Prince features a 3-litre straight-six with an aluminium block, overhead camshafts and three separate ‘starting carbs’, making six in total. It also boasts built-in hydraulic rams to lift it off the ground and an immersion heater to keep the oil and water warm on cold days. All this could be yours for £28,000-£32,000.
  • Based on a Volkswagen T2, this Jurgens Autovilla is a recent import from its native South Africa. Approximately 900 Autovillas were produced between 1972-1979, but there's only a handful in the UK. Estimated at £15,000-£18,000, this example presents very well and looks ideal for summer holidays.
  • This 1987 Porsche 911 is certainly an interesting example. Being a Super Sport it's got the 930 Turbo-style flared body, spoilers, larger brakes and other tweaks, but a naturally-aspirated motor. This one has covered 166,000 miles, but has had an engine transplant from a later 996 and has been enthusiast-owned for 20 years. Also supplied with its original engine, it's estimated at £65,000-£70,000.
  • The previous owner of this 1971 Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible drove it to Italy and decided to have it restored there while he returned to the UK. Estimated at £11,000-£13,000, it now benefits from a straight-six Vitesse engine swap and a GT6 rear suspension set-up.
  • Powered by a 4-litre Rover V8, this smart TVR Chimaera is an early example of the breed, having been registered in April 1993. Finished in green with contrasting cream leather, it shows a mere 45,000 miles and is expected to command £14,000-£15,000.
  • This 1988 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit is a real time-warp, having covered just 10,000 miles from new. Resplendent in black with a Caramac-coloured interior, it remains completely stock and is expected to fetch £4500-£5500.
