A one-of-a-kind Jaguar X-Type racing car created for the failed SCV8 championship has been offered up for sale.
This is the Jaguar X-Type SCV8, a modern-classic racing car that never got to turn a wheel in anger.
It was built to meet the specification of the SCV8 racing championship, a series that sadly never got off the ground despite the impressive specification of the racing cars involved. The championship was also set to feature cars from other manufacturers, including Peugeot.
Created some 18 years ago by four-time BTCC champion Andy Rouse, the car is being offered for sale by motorsport engineering outfit CNC AWS in the Cotswolds – a firm also responsible for the restoration of number historic racers from the 70s and 80s.
The car is built on a spaceframe chassis and was originally intended to house a 550bhp 3.2-litre Nicholson McLaren V8 engine under its X-Type silhouette bodywork – but is offered for sale with a Lotus V8 that was also being considered for the race series. Originally built by Rouse Hall Motorsport, the car was tested by Formula 1 driver Justin Wilson in period.
“It’s a fantastic car, superbly built and specified with the best parts,” said Alan Strachan of CNC AWS. “It’s also significant as the last car Rouse Hall built before closing his workshop.”
Alan also explained that the car could be supplied to its next owner in race-ready trim: “It would be eminently suitable for Thundersaloons and a host of other series, as well as a special car for Jaguar collectors.”
