The Historic Rally Car Register (HRCR) Open Day returns to the British Motor Museum on January 11, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the first use of forest stages on the RAC rally.
The Historic Rally Car Register will showcase how diversification has led to a full and multi-disciplined sport today, with a series of short forums to cover each aspect of rallying that the Register is involved in – ‘Speed’, ‘Stage’, and ‘Road and Tour’.
The forums will be hosted by legendary rally co-driver, Mike Broad. Already confirmed for the speed forum are Ian Hunt and daughter Vicky, who will also bring their Mini Cooper S along. With three generations of the Hunt family having competed in the same car, the pair will offer a real insight into what is involved for those of any age thinking of joining them in the HRCR Speed Series for 2020.
Acting as a curtain-raiser for the new season, the HRCR Open Day is a social gathering where the rally community can meet friends, admire rally cars from the 1950s to the 1980s and talk to organisers of the events making up the six HRCR championships in the UK. Visitors can also register for the championships on the day and join the HRCR.
Tom Caren, Show Manager at the British Motor Museum, stated: “For those interested in historic rallying the HRCR event is a great social day out and a fantastic opportunity to see so many rally cars on display. The intention is to give those who attend the chance to see what’s involved whether they are starting out, or an experienced competitor looking to try something else”.
